Your Wedding Album - Two Ways To Make It

We offer two handmade albums from Folio, a small bindery in Yorkshire. Both are printed on thick, matte fine art paper and open flat, so a photograph can run across both pages.

The Fine Art album is the one we design for you. It comes with the full range of leather, cotton, linen and silk covers, multiple personalisation options, and matching mini copies for family. The Everyday album is the one you design yourself in your gallery. It has a small choice of linen covers, and is less than half the price.

Most couples ask us to design theirs. This page explains how each route works so you can decide which works best for you.

Route One: We Design It For You

You choose the photographs, we design the fine art book. This is how most couples do it, and is the only way to access the full range of covers and parent albums.

  1. Let us know you'd like an album. Drop us an email.

  2. We will send you a link to choose photographs

  3. Choose your photographs. Pick around 50-60 for a 20-spread album (or more if you would like to add extra spreads). If there are pictures you'd love to see big, or any that should sit together, tell us in an email.

  4. We design a first draft. We will sequence the day and lay out the pages, usually within 1 week.

  5. We send you a link to view proof. You will see a set of spreads, where you can leave comments (click on photo and write in orange box) and use the red envelope icon within the proofing window to submit comments to us.

  6. We make the changes. Two rounds of changes are included. Further rounds are £50 each.

  7. Sign off your design with the proofing link.

  8. Choose your cover. Leather, cotton, linen or silk; various colours; optional lettering (debossed, foiled or printed +£25 / 22 carat gold, palladium +£45). We can advise by email or phone which lettering will look best on your chosen cover. Our personal favourite is blind debossing (+£25) which looks great on most covers.

  9. Add mini parent albums if you'd like them. Smaller copies of the same design, often given to parents or grandparents.

  10. We order it from Folio. After sign off, we invoice you, you pay us, we place the order, and Folio make it by hand and send directly to you.

Route Two: You Design It Yourself

If you'd enjoy laying out the pages yourself, you can do the whole thing from your gallery, on a laptop or your phone.

  1. Open the shop in your gallery and choose the Everyday Album.

  2. Start from a draft or a blank book. The gallery can build a first draft for you from the photographs you've favourited, or you can start from empty pages.

  3. Lay out your pages. Drag photographs onto each page and pick a layout. You can crop, swap and reorder as much as you like.

  4. Choose your linen cover and add your text (up to two lines).

  5. Check out. Your album goes to Folio to be made and is posted to you.

Worth knowing before you start:

  • The options in the gallery shop are set by our gallery provider and may occasionally change.

  • The cover choice in the gallery shop carries only linen options.

  • Parent albums can't be ordered this way.

  • The layout is yours. We don't usually check designs before they go to print although if you ask, we'll happily take a look before it's printed.

A few things we've learned from making albums for 15 years:

  • Keep the design as simple as possible. One big photo on a page maximises impact.

  • Check each photo and recrop if needed. Check heads and feet.

Started on your own and changed your mind?

Don’t worry, this happens, and your work hasn’t been a waste of time. Let us know and we’ll send you a link, so you can send us your photo selection. You can email a note to tell us anything you liked about your own layout, and we'll take it from there.

Questions couples ask

Is one album better made than the other? No. Both albums come from the same supplier, with similar paper and the same inks (the Everyday Albums have slightly brighter white paper). The differences are the design process, cover choice and personalisation. The design templates with the Everyday books are limited, whereas we can create a bespoke design.

How many photographs fit? A 20-spread album usually holds somewhere between 50 and 60, depending on how many sit alone on a page. You can add extra spreads for £25 each for main fine art books (+£8 each for mini albums).

How long for delivery? Your albums will be with you about three weeks after you sign off on your design or have placed your order through your gallery. We will tell you if there are Christmas cut off dates.

Is there a deadline? No. Plenty of couples order on their first anniversary (or even their 10th anniversary!)

What if we're not sure which route suits us? Just send us a message. Have a play around with your own design and see how you get on. If it feels frustrating, or the options seem too limited, just shout and we’ll step in. If you'd like the album to look like our photography, the sequencing and pacing that tell a story of your day, you may be best going straight to route one where we design it.
