Ireland Wedding Venues

Eimear & Hugh's Wedding at Borris House, Co. Carlow by This Modern Love

Eimear & Hugh - Borris House Wedding

Hugh was quite surprised when a stranger FaceTimed him, while he was doing his laundry after work one night, wanting to talk about his wedding.

But he went with the flow, and we chatted about his plans while he put socks into the washer..

Everything made a bit more sense when Eimear, who had arranged the call, made her way home through the traffic.

And that really, was the perfect beginning to this story. The soundest of people, generous with their time, mighty craic, no fuss.

You can see from the photos what a brilliant day it was. Piano duets, enormous grins, kids weaving in and out, cutting the cake with an architects' T-square, Eimear's mam's wedding dress... Gold. Freaking. Boots.

This is Borris House by the way. Very nice it is too!

Eimear & Hugh - thanks so much for having us. We'll miss our FaceTime laundry sessions...

Caroline & Max / Ballintubbert House Wedding by This Modern Love

Ballintubbert House Wedding - Caroline & Max

This is our eighth year shooting weddings.

It's funny how it never gets old. Some things do of course. Like the driving. And occasionally trying to get vegetarian food in rural Ireland :)

But the weddings never get old. Each one still has something electric about it. One of the most important days in two peoples lives; in their families' lives. It creates an energy all of it's own. A wave to be swept up in. Ordinary things are happening in all the houses and gardens and bars all around. But where you are, everything is extraordinary.

Caroline and Max's wedding was extraordinary. They were so laid-back in the run-up to the wedding, I never expected the explosion of colour, design, style... (which I'm sure our friend and fab wedding stylist Kate had a little to do with!). But most of all, I was bowled over by the sheer joy of the whole thing. I know I say this a lot, but it will genuinely never stop being a privilege to be part of celebrations like this.

We've been a bit quiet on the blog lately. Too much road-trippin and a few other creative side-projects in the pipeline (mostly involving paint in my *new studio* in Belfast arts collective the Vault- whoop!).

But we can't wait to show more of 2018’s wedding adventures. We were lucky enough to get to this amazing venue, Ballintubbert House, twice this summer, so that's something we definitely want to share. As well as all the other nooks and crannies of Ireland, Scotland and England we’ve got to explore. So... more on the way :)

Huge thanks to Caroline and Max for having us xx

Maria & Ryan's Wedding at Killruddery House, Bray by This Modern Love

Maria & Ryan - Killruddery House Wedding Photographer

We would have loved Maria and Ryan's wedding no matter what. But when we found out Ryan was from our hometown and we have a mutual friend - the living legend and local character that is Big Jim - who was even going to be a guest at the wedding - we couldn't wait.

Their wedding at Killruddery House was our favourite type. Laid-back, funny, heart-felt, focused on guests having a really good time.

The photography brief was full-scale documentary with a quick dander for portraits. Recently we've been having lots more of these requests - to ditch the semi-formal groups and portraits completely. We're loving this. I'll always be happy to take some photos for parents, but the creative freedom the full on documentary brief brings is amazing. Keep 'em coming!

A huge thanks to these gorgeous human beings for the privilege of being part of their day...
